The Whitefaced Dartmoor
An ancient breed still holding its own!
The Whiteface are a traditional hill sheep. It is hardy and can thrive on more traditional less intensive land. They have evolved on the hills of Dartmoor, grazing heather during the summer and the valley hay meadows during winter and spring. The majority of flocks still live and thrive on the moor to this day.
They combine easy lambing with a reasonable Lambing percentage. They produces a quality lean carcass with a great taste and still retains its ability as a long wool to produce an excellent fleece of wool.
As well as these qualities the whiteface is a very easy sheep to handle. They are thrifty, but unlike many other breeds don’t have an undying urge to explore the next door field! NEXT
